Course History and Description:
Carrington is a New Zealand golf resort facility that is truly world class. Situated on the Karikari peninsula, near Kaitaia, it features an ocean side, tournament-quality, 18-hole golf course designed by Matt Dye inaugurated on December 15, 2003. Carrington also offers luxury accommodation in either lodge or villa options, an award winning vineyard and winery, Karikari Estate, and many more activities.
Carrington is perfect for those wanting a New Zealand golf holiday, food lovers, or anyone who wants to enjoy the unspoiled beauty on offer at this award-winning Northland retreat.

The unique feature of the Carrington Club golf course is that, although it has an oceanside location, it looks and plays like an "inland golf" course, complete with rolling hills, vales, and natural water hazards. It is not a typical "tabletop" oceanside golf course, which is sighted on a flat plateau with man-made obstacles, produced from artificial contouring of the land. Instead, Carrington Club stresses the natural contours of its location on the gently sloping lower levels of a hill side site adjacent to the Pacific Ocean.

The resultant effect is the challenging play of a rolling inland golf course but with the beautiful ocean vistas of its seaside location. This is a combination unique to the Carrington Club rivaling any other top ranked tournament quality golf course in New Zealand.

Carrington golf course is sited so as to provide a variety of vistas to the golfer. The course is located between sweeping ocean views to the north and east, and hillside vineyards of Karikari Estate to the south. The Black Angus herd of Carrington Farms grazes on gently rolling pasture lands to the east and west of the golf course. To the north are wetlands, planted with native trees and flora and containing a large lake which is home to many native birds.

Spectacular views of the golf course, wetlands, beach, and ocean beyond are visible from the clubhouse and lounge complex. The clubhouse is sited on a high ridge in the middle of the golf course in order to take full advantage of the unique combination of vistas.

Carrington Lodge and Carrington Villa
Carrington Lodge accommodations include ten spacious, air conditioned lodge rooms with private bathrooms, each containing a California King sized bed and satellite TV. Each lodge room opens onto a wide verandah with views to the ocean or golf course or native bush and vineyard. The lodge connects by verandah walkways to the clubhouse, library, dining room and members lounge.

Carrington Villas offer self-contained, luxuriously appointed accommodations with two double bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Each Villa has a fireplace, satellite television, air conditioning, and private garage. Porches on the first and second floors look out over the 15th fairway to Karikari Beach and the Pacific Ocean. All kitchen appliances and household items necessary for guests are included.

The popular lodge room “Luxury Package” includes a la carte dinner, full breakfast, pre dinner cocktail and hors d'oeuvre hour, and the use of all Carrington facilities except clay target shooting and horseback riding. Lodge and villa guests are entitled to a reduced greens fee of $85.00 (NZ).

Carrington Activities:
The Karikari Peninsula fronts Doubtless Bay on its southern side and the Pacific Ocean to the north. The peninsula is re known for its beautiful white sandy beaches, particularly Tokerau and Karikari Beaches, as well as many secluded coves. The jewel in the Karikari Peninsula crown is Maitai Bay, one of the most beautiful and idyllic beaches in New Zealand. The peninsula is also home to Karikari Estate, New Zealand's northernmost winery and vineyard.

In addition to the boating and bathing attractions, the waters surrounding the Karikari Peninsula are a fisherman's paradise. The majority of world records for striped marlin of varying classes have been established off the tip of the Karikari Peninsula. Carrington can arrange a deep sea fishing expedition with world re known boat captains, fishing for marlin, snapper, kingfish and tuna. Other recreational activities on the Karikari Peninsula which are available to Carrington guests include surf casting, skeet shooting, tennis, wine tasting and horseback riding, or walking the many tracks on the 3000 acre farm and private beach.
