Course History and Description Fuerteventura Golf Club, the first golf club on the island of Fuerteventura, is an 18 hole, par 71 round extending 6124 meters, and wanders over streams and around lakes. The golf course was designed by the prestigious architect Juan Caterineau, who realized at once the importance of the effect of the wind and landscaped it with this factor in mind. For this reason golfers find wide fairways and extensive greens. The course excels for its simplicity and beauty, its main difficulties are generally associated with the breeze and its many lakes, connected by small brooks and channels, which can sometimes come into play. The dominating breeze comes from the north, and when it blows strongly, the course becomes a real test of a players skill. Accommodations Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands and the least populated but still off the beaten tourist track. And yet, it has so many attractions: pristine beaches, rugged peaks of dormant volcanoes, waves of deserted sand dunes, quaint fishing villages, grand colonial mansions and, in sharp contrast to the sun- burnt landscape, a sward of green - the Juan Caterineau-designed par 71 golf course. Right in the middle, housing the club house and pro shop, is the Elba Palace Golf, a stately mansion built around tree-lined courtyards. An inviting free-form swimming pool is fringed by umbrella's sun loungers and teak chairs where the attentive bar staff will serve you with drinks and a tasty snack. The restaurant, one of the best on the island, combines designer haute cuisine with noble old world wines. The bedrooms are lavishly appointed with huge bathrooms and balconies overlooking the golf course or the sea. Another attraction is the relaxing spa with its wide range of therapies.
