![]() ![]() Course History: Superbly located in 500 acres of Sussex downland, Mannings Heath is one of the finest golf clubs in England. Two different championship courses and a clubhouse that dates back to the 17th century make it the ultimate destination for golfers. Each course has its own individual playing characteristics. The Kingfisher with its stunning views follows the banks of the 14 acre Hawkins Pond on several holes. The Waterfall was established in 1905 and is set in mature woodland with streams and tree-lined fairways. Together they offer an unrivalled golfing experience for all levels of player. Mannings Heath is the only golf club in the United Kingdom awarded a rosette for its cooking, the Golding Restaurant offers a true dining experience. Course Description: The par-4, 398-yard 8th hole, known as Roosthole” is the most challenging hole on the front nine. A dog-leg right up the hill which requires two very well struck shots to get up in two. The longer hitters need to play caution to the wind on their tee shot as driver may take the ball too far and into the brook running across the fairway. A well hit 3 wood to the right of the fairway bunkers will draw the ball down to the left of the sloping fairway and open the green up a little for the approach shot. A mid to long iron is needed with a touch of draw as anything short left will find rough or deep bunkers. The large elevated green is fairly flat and if reached in two, may leave you with a rare birdie 3 on your card. You have an excellent opportunity to bring out the driver on the par-4, 438-yard 13th hole, known as “Dragon’s Leap.” But a nice long drive with a touch of draw is required to avoid the trouble. Anything too far right will end up in some fairly heavy rough, but anything slightly left or left-centre of the fairway will open up the green. The fairway slopes downhill towards the green, and a controlled pitch and run may leave you close for a birdie chance. The stunning dogleg left par-4, 375-yard 14th hole, known as “Hawkins Corner” needs a mid iron off the tee which will leave a short to mid iron to an elevated green to the left. A heavily tiered green from front to back will leave a tricky two putt if you are not on the same level as the pin. Certainly a birdie if you find the green on the right level. The signature 15th hole, named “Kingfisher” is a short 317-yard par-4 which will tease the longer hitters into going for the green. But with the green being closely guarded by bunkers it will require a touch of luck to find the putting surface. A straight drive will leave a straight forward approach to an elevated flat green leaving a good opportunity for birdie. Dropping a shot here will feel like dropping two.
