Course History:

Superbly located in 500 acres of Sussex downland, Mannings Heath is one of the finest golf clubs in England. Two different championship courses and a clubhouse that dates back to the 17th century make it the ultimate destination for golfers. Each course has its own individual playing characteristics. The Waterfall was established in 1905 and is set in mature woodland with streams and tree-lined fairways. The Kingfisher with its stunning views follows the banks of the 14 acre Hawkins Pond on several holes. Together they offer an unrivalled golfing experience for all levels of player.

Mannings Heath is the only golf club in the United Kingdom awarded a rosette for its cooking, the Golding Restaurant offers a true dining experience.

Course Description:
The par-3, 184-yard 5th hole, known as “Punchbowl” is one of the course's trademark holes, and certainly one of the most dramatic, which will linger long in the memory. From an elevated tee, you need to hit a long iron into a bizarrely shaped green which gives the hole its name - Punchbowl. The green is completely hemmed in by high banks, and an awkward slop at the front will prevent anything short from hopping onto the putting surface. Beware anything hit even slightly left, a hollow could swallow any balls going astray, while into the trees is out of bounds. Be prepared to take a wood if the wind is blowing - but don't forget to take in the magnificent view.

The par-4, 425-yard dogleg left 7th hole, known as “John Jones” is the most challenging hole on the Waterfall Course. This drive looks very daunting as the tee area is hemmed in by trees on both sides, but a straight drive is rewarded with a very open shot into the green. Any wild shots to the left are punished by trees while a sliced drive will find knee high rough you might expect to see on a links course. An ideal drive will have a touch of draw to be ideally placed in the centre of the fairway, as it gently doglegs left, for a fairly straightforward approach into a large green, and a good chance to win back dropped shots - if you hit it in regulation.

The par-3, 169-yard 10th hole, known as “Waterfall” is another of Mannings Heath's trademark holes - and the signature hole of Waterfall Course. The tee shot is from a high tee and it is a long drop to hit the kidney shaped green in one of the most beautiful surroundings on the course. The hole may seem easy at first glance but on closer inspection proves to be one of the hardest, it is a full 169 yards from the white tees and hitting the target from there is no easy task. If you miss the green which slopes towards the front, there is out of bounds waiting if you go long. Also, the stream snakes its way alongside the left. Don't be misled by the beauty of this hole, it could quite easily be a round breaker.

Golf legends Henry Longhurst and Gary Player have included the par-4, 368-yard 11th hole, known as “Valley” in their imaginary top 18 holes in the world - and such high praise is well justified. The hole is extremely tight and anyone lacking in confidence with their driver would do well to take a long iron off the tee. Mature trees closely line the fairway and represent an imposing sight, in some places the fairway is only a few yards wide, calling for accuracy as well as length. The stream, which winds its way around the course, snakes along the left side of the fairway before circling half the green and is a constant menace. It is likely your approach shot will come from the rough, but luckily the green is very receptive and only guarded by the stream at the back. Once on the putting surface it runs very true, and slopes from right to left.
