![]() ![]() Course History: The Manor House Golf Club's magnificent setting in the rolling Cotswold countryside is unsurpassed. Its mature oak and beech trees, manicured fairways and hand-cut greens together with the river Bybrook meandering through the middle brings both drama and beauty to this 18 hole course. Offering a number of feature holes including the 17th, rated as one of the top ten par 3's in the world the course is testing, yet fair. The course at a length of 6500 yards is one of the most spectacular and challenging 18-hole par 72 golf courses in the South of England, and was recently voted in "Today's Golfer" one of the most luxurious Clubs in the UK. Designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, is located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, bordering the beautiful village of Castle Combe. The clubhouse offers the environment you would expect with carefully chosen interiors, relaxing lounges and bars, and a range of dining experiences from a team of chefs. Course description: The par-5, 498-yard 3rd hole, named “Doolittle,” is one of the most visually stunning par 5's you are likely to see. The hole dodges across a valley with heavy rough, water and bunkers to negotiate before you reach the green. Take a fairway wood or long iron off the tee as driver may take the ball too far and into the brook running across the fairway. The well guarded green can be reached in two but it requires an accurate, long shot. The green undulates and hardly has a straight putt. The par-5, 554-yard 12th hole, named ”Hatch” is the longest hole on the course and only reachable in two shots by the longest hitters. The hole itself is dead straight and played down a narrow avenue of trees. Accuracy is the key. Well placed fairway bunkers threaten your drive. Plenty of thought must be given to the second shot where a large fairway bunker on the right must be avoided. The green is protected by bunkers to the left and trees right. There is a ridge running through the middle, so hitting the right level of the green is critical. The trademark par-3, 151-yard 17th hole, named “Burton Brook” is a simply breathtaking! Two greens give variation and both play differently. The hole drops down about 120 feet. The right green has the Bybrook protecting the left side and the front. The left green undulates and has bunkers and water at the back to pick up misguided shots. Club selection and judgment of distance are vital to hit the green. The par-4, 383-yard 18th, known as “Woodbury” is a classic finishing hole - often described as the prettiest finishing hole in England! The tee shot is narrow, with trouble left and right. Aim at the large tree in the left-center and fade or draw to the fairway. The right side offers safety, but the left gives a more direct route to the green. The approach to the narrow green is daunting due to water right and long, green side bunkers and trees to the left. A par to finish will definitely hit the spot.
