![]() Course Description and History: Royal Portrush has a special place in the history of Irish golf, since its Dunluce Links course is the only golf course outside Great Britain to host the Open Championship (in 1951 when Max Faulkner was victorious). The Valley Links course is certainly not a warm-up course by any means. It is a little bit shorter than the Dunluce Links but just as tough, featuring the same tight fairways, rolling fairways and stunning links greens. Both are considered a 'great pair' and a wonderful compliment to each other. The Valley links course was formed at the same time as The Dunluce Course in1888 and also redesigned by renowned golf architect Harry S. Colt. Although nearer the sea than the Dunluce Course, it is mostly laid out in the moderate shelter of the ‘Old War Hollow’ and is therefore less exposed. One of its features is the reliance on nature for its hazards, as there are only 20 bunkers in the whole 18 holes. The Valley offers a stiff challenge and, along with other local courses, hosts the Causeway Coast Amateur Tournament, the biggest amateur tournament in the world.
