![]() ![]() Course History and Description: Sunningdale is blessed with two championship courses laid out on the most glorious piece of heath land. The courses wind their way through heather, gorse and pine with 36 holes, each one of which has its own individual charm. The New Course, designed by Harry Colt, was opened in 1923. The New Course features a combination of richly wooded and open heath land holes with an abundance of heather requiring long carries that also give exhilarating views across the wild landscape of Chobham Common. The New Course has seen less of the limelight than its elder sister but has proved itself to be a course worthy of any championship. Gary Player won his first victory as a professional at Sunningdale when the Club staged the Dunlop Masters in 1956. He returned to the New Course in 2000 as part of the Club's centenary celebration to play Jack Nicklaus in the Shell's Wonderful World of Golf Series.
