Course History and Description:
Golfers visiting Madden's on Gull Lake are in the middle of a paradise of fairways. Madden’s has been the leader in Minnesota golf resorts since 1926 when we opened the first 18 hole resort course in the state, the Pine Beach East course. Madden’s now offer 63 holes of exceptional golf designed to appeal to all levels of ability.

Madden's Pine Beach East Course was designed in the late 1920s by James Dalgleish, a course designer who had come from Scotland to Kansas City. Several courses in Kansas bear his mark, including Bellevue Country Club in Atchison, Painted Hills in Kansas City and MacDonald Golf Course in Wichita.

We have lovingly maintained conditions on this historic course which retains much of its 1920s charm. But we've also rebuilt the greens, added bunkers and water hazards. Mature oaks and pines tower over the fairways. There are only two sets of tees here. From the back, this par-72 course measures 5,920 yards; from the forward, 5,415 yards.

"This is a course where golfers can really go out and have a good time," says Scott Hoffmann, Director of Golf at Madden's Resort. "It's also known for having very true putting greens."

Among the favorite holes on this course is an unusual par-6 on Number Six, which plays at 618 yards from the back tees and 467 yards from the forward. "It requires a long straightaway tee shot," says Hoffmann. "The fairway is long and flat, but there are bunkers from tee to green and there is water danger on the right near the green."

That hole is followed by a par-5 which measures 507 from the back tees and 467 from the forward.

Another memorable hole is No. 9, a par-4 that measures 347 yards from both sets of tees. "There is water to the left and the green is fronted by a waterfall that empties into a pond," Hoffmann says.

Golf Vacation Packages:
Madden's offers a number of fantastic Stay and Play Packages that will fit any price range or ability level. Don't forget our Play the Trail package that gives you unbelievable golf, upscale lodging and breakfast, to go with golf on any of the Brainerd Golf Trails' 300 holes, all which are within 45 minutes of Madden's.
