Course History and Description:

Golfers visiting Madden's on Gull Lake are in the middle of a paradise of fairways. Madden’s has been the leader in Minnesota golf resorts since 1926 when we opened the first 18 hole resort course in the state, the Pine Beach East course. Madden’s now offer 63 holes of exceptional golf designed to appeal to all levels of ability.

Madden's Pine Beach West Course is a bit shorter than the East Course -- a little over 5,000 yards from the back tees and about 4,500 from the forward -- but it's also long in character, according to the staff at Madden's. "It's more of an executive length," says Scott Hoffmann. "But it does require you to use all the clubs in your bag even though it's shorter." This course was designed by Jim Madden, one of the founders of the resort.

Those who play it love it for its true greens, its parkland surroundings and its three-hour rounds. It's the perfect place to play to warm up for a round on The Classic or to finish off a day of other activities. "Seniors and women really love it," says Hoffmann.

Number Four on Pine Beach West is an excellent par-4, 415 yards from the back tees and 409 from the forward. "You need to keep your drive to the right half of the fairway and in front of a valley of grass that separates the fairway from the green," Hoffmann says. "If you end up down in that valley, you have a blind shot to the green."

Number Ten is one of the best par-4s in the Brainerd lakes area, says Hoffmann. "It's a 415-yard hole (366 yard from the front tees). You have what looks like a wide-open tee shot, but you need to be on the left part of the fairway to get to the green." That's particularly since the trees on the right can be an obstacle.

Number 16 on this course is a real standout, a short par-3 that plays 126 yards from the back tees and 90 from the forward. What makes it a dramatic hole to play are the mature pines that stand around it and a boulder retaining wall in front of the green.

Golf Vacation Packages:
Madden's offers a number of fantastic Stay and Play Packages that will fit any price range or ability level. Don't forget our Play the Trail package that gives you unbelievable golf, upscale lodging and breakfast, to go with golf on any of the Brainerd Golf Trails' 300 holes, all which are within 45 minutes of Madden's.
