Course History and Description
T
he Quarry Course at Giants Ridge is the newest addition to Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort. The addition of the 18-hole championship course redefines golf in the Midwest. With dramatically raised tees and deep hazards, The Quarry employs the features of mine lands, wetlands, forests and a former sand quarry. Sculpted in equal parts from the north woods and reclaimed mine lands, The Quarry has a style all its own; but every bit as serene and magnificent as its sister course, The Legend.

Golfweek named The Quarry the Best Course in Minnesota (April, 2006). In 2005, the evaluators for Golf Digest magazine placed The Quarry at #16 on America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses, and The Legend at #88, making Giants Ridge the state’s only two-course resort with both its offerings ranked on the list. And a year ago, Golf Digest became the first publication to name The Quarry Minnesota’s number one public course.

A par 72 and walkable 7,000 yards from the back tees, The Quarry honors the region's industrial past in a unique and culturally significant way. Each hole is named for area mines, past and current -from hole four, which commemorates the giant Mahoning mines that produced more than 130 million tons of iron, to hole 18, named for the Embarrass mine, which today, is a 550-foot deep mine-pit lake, the deepest on the Mesabi Iron Range.

Accommodations
Stay right on the edge of the action at The Lodge at Giants Ridge or the Villas at Giants Ridge, two classic sites that blend north woods charm with comfort. The Lodge offers 93 suites, indoor swimming pool and spa and on-site dining, all at the foot of the ski area and The Legend Golf Course. The Villas are luxury condominiums and cabin style villas overlooking Wynne Lake, a private beach and more.

Originally, Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort first served as a local ski area with our first downhill run cut out of the mountain forest in the mid 1950s. Today, the resort offers the two finest resort-style golf courses in the Midwest, mountain biking, a variety of winter sports activities, including skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling, and all of the charm, culture and history of northeastern Minnesota's Iron Range.
