![]() ![]() Course History and Description: The Golf Club at Oxford Greens features a muscular yet extremely fun and playable layout that seamlessly flows through 680 acres of natural beauty, breathtaking vistas, new residences and ever-changing terrain. The par-72 course provides five sets of tee markers that allow a variation in play from 5,200 to 7,200 yards. Each hole is uniquely designed to conform with its setting. Special attention has been given to the shape and undulation of each putting surface to insure that no two are similar. Featuring a traditional or retro design by acclaimed golf course architect Mark Mungeam, The Golf Club at Oxford Greens’ feel and atmosphere harkens back to the days of old New England. The design team was presented with the unique opportunity to carve the course from Connecticut woodlands – stunning elm, birch, and pine trees; ever-changing topography; wild meadows; natural preserves; old farm stone walls; and shimmering ponds – all of which were utilized to maximize the site’s harmony with its natural surroundings. In the routing and design of The Golf Club’s course, Mungeam adhered to a philosophy where hazards are clearly visible and the player is presented with alternate routes of play, challenging him or herself with different risk-reward situations every time he or she plays. This theme, known as strategic shot value, enhances the golfer’s awareness and enjoyment of the course. The player plots his or her way through holes on sinewy fairways that wrap around hazards and dare the adventurous to take the risk in order to gain an advantage. Yet classic open plateau greens with chipping surfaces found generally below allow for run-up shots and perfect scoring opportunities. With a course that is both visually stimulating and mentally challenging, The Golf Club at Oxford Greens promises to delight, to challenge, and to exceed the expectations of its players. This 18-hole championship golf course is certain to quickly become one of New England's finest golfing venues. The par 72 course has been designed to provide five sets of tees stretching from 4,982 yards to over 7,100 yards assuring a variety of golfing experiences to all levels of golfers. Golf course architect Mark Mungeam describes the trademark par -3, 218-yard 2nd hole at Oxford Greens: “Upon entering the second hole, one is presented with a wonderful vista of water, grass and sunsets. This long par-3 drops fifty feet from the back tee to the large, undulating green emphasized by a deep swale through its middle. With trouble in the form of water and three bunkers on the left, one is wise to miss their shot to the right. This hole is a wonderful introduction to the ensuing round.” Along with a luxurious golf clubhouse, which will feature a full dining room and lounge area, The Golf Club offers a large 15,000 square foot practice green, also a full driving range and teaching area. The Golf Club at Oxford Greens is managed by Billy Casper Golf.
